Oscar Verhaar (countertenor)
Oscar Verhaar (1987) completed his Master in Early Music Singing at the Royal Conservatory The Hague, where he studied with Michael Chance, Jill Feldman, Lenie van den Heuvel and Peter Kooij. He also studied with Lydia Vierlinger in Vienna. In 2010 Oscar won the first prize of the Austria Barock Akademie. Since 2002 he has been performing as a solist in the oratorio repertoire, singing major works by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi and others. On the opera stage he has performed in Dido and Aeneas by Purcell, Venus and Adonis by John Blow and Britten's Abraham and Isaac. In October 2010, he had great success performing the role of Speranza in Monteverdi's Orfeo for the Dutch Opera Studio, staged by Pierre Audi. More recently Oscar sang at festivals such as Winter in Schwetzingen, Grachtenfestival Amsterdam and Musica Sacra Maastricht. Later this season his first solo CD will be released for Quintone records, featuring music by Constantijn Huygens, Caccini, Kapsperger and Monteverdi.
